Nematodes for wireworms

Steinernema carpocapsae · nematode
Against wireworms & click beetles

Documented because nematodes are often suggested for wireworms, not because they work. Utah State Extension says entomopathogenic nematodes are ineffective against wireworms, and a 2024 study of 16 nematode populations found wireworms highly resistant, with 3–43% mortality after 56 days of exposure. In a Montana shade-house trial, S. feltiae did no better than untreated soil. Baiting before planting and avoiding freshly turned grass are the garden answers.
