Entomopathogenic nematode for pickleworm

Steinernema carpocapsae · nematode
Against pickleworm

UF/IFAS reports that Steinernema carpocapsae effectively suppressed pickleworm injury in squash, because the nematodes survive inside the large blossoms and kill young larvae before they enter the fruit. It is probably ineffective on cucumber and cantaloupe, whose small open flowers expose the nematodes to sunlight. UF/IFAS names no other natural enemy that reliably suppresses damage, and does not usually recommend Bt against this internal feeder.

RateNo published pickleworm rate in the sources checked; UF/IFAS cites a 1994 squash study without giving a dose
TimingWhile squash is flowering and young larvae are in the blossoms, before they bore into fruit
