Nematodes for plum curculio
Plum curculio grubs leave dropped fruit and pupate in the soil under the tree, where nematodes can reach them. In New England apple orchards S. carpocapsae performed about as well as S. riobrave in cutting adult emergence in the one year they were compared (Piñero et al. 2020), but in Michigan it did less well, and even S. riobrave worked only in very sandy soils (Pereault et al. 2009). Virulence was highest at 25 °C in lab tests (Shapiro-Ilan et al. 2011). Use it alongside picking up drops and petal-fall protection, not instead of them.
