Entomopathogenic nematode for fall armyworm

Steinernema carpocapsae · nematode
Against fall armyworm

In lawns, armyworm larvae move across the turf as a group and shelter in the thatch, where this ambushing nematode waits. UC IPM's turf rate covers cutworms and armyworms together, and Grewal (2001) lists fall armyworm among the turf armyworms for which S. carpocapsae is the best-matched nematode; no fall-armyworm trial figures were found, so treat the rate as an extension of that guidance. Apply at the first sign of a moving brown front, and keep the soil moist, because nematodes die quickly in dry, sunny turf.

Rate25 million per 1,000 ft² (about 270,000 /m²) for cutworms and armyworms in turf (UC IPM)
TimingEvening, onto warm, moist soil as soon as a soap flush finds larvae; irrigate several times over the next 2 weeks
Temperature14–34 °C; best 19–31 °C
