Bt galleriae (beetleGONE!) for Japanese beetles

Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. galleriae strain SDS-502 · microbial beetle control
Against japanese beetle

A biological spray with field-trial evidence against the adults. In Kentucky trials, weathered Btg residues cut Japanese beetle feeding on roses and lindens for 3–14 days, and Minnesota Extension rates it moderately effective for one to two weeks. It protects the leaves rather than wiping out the beetles: most beetles that had fed on treated leaves could still fly a day later. Keep it off milkweed, because it killed 97–100% of young monarch caterpillars in the same study.

RateMaker's rate — beetleGONE! 2–4 oz per gallon of water, sprayed on foliage where beetles are feeding
TimingWhile adults are feeding; the maker says to respray every 7–10 days and not to let rain or irrigation wash it off the leaves

Before you order

A strain of Bt that makes a toxin active against scarab beetles. Sprayed on leaves (beetleGONE!), it cut Japanese beetle feeding for 3–14 days in Kentucky trials. As lawn granules (grubGONE!), university results range from failure to good control. It kills monarch caterpillars, so keep it off milkweed.
