Podisus maculiventris · predatory stink bug
Against colorado potato beetle

Nymphs and adults spear the larvae. In field microplots it did about as well as Perillus bioculatus and stayed slightly longer in plots with egg masses. It does not readily eat adult beetles, but adults near it ate 23% less and laid 37% fewer eggs. A synthetic version of its pheromone raised egg predation fivefold in potato plots. Hand-picking adults and egg clusters remains the garden backbone.
