Metarhizium for wireworms

Metarhizium brunneum strain F52 · microbial — insect-killing fungus
Against wireworms & click beetles

Documented because the fungus is often named as a wireworm biocontrol, not because it is a proven one. Neither US LALGUARD M52 label lists wireworms, and Utah State Extension says no effective biological insecticides are known for them. Metarhizium brunneum does infect them, and some European field trials cut damage to potatoes and maize, but a 2023 study describes field success as inconsistent. A Canadian study found latent infections in field-caught wireworms and suggested that bacteria they carry may suppress the disease. Laboratory work with a wild isolate found no significant infection at 54 °F (12 °C) or colder, and Utah State notes wireworm damage is often worst in cool, wet springs.

How it works, how to tell it has established and the supplier list are on the full Metarhizium brunneum strain F52 profile.
