BeneficialPotato psyllid

Dicyphus predatory bug for potato psyllid

Dicyphus hesperus · predatory bug
Against potato psyllid

In greenhouse trials by Koppert researchers, D. hesperus established on tomato and suppressed potato psyllid, alone and together with sweetpotato whitefly, and in lab tests it showed a good rate of increase feeding on psyllid nymphs (Calvo et al. 2018, Bull Entomol Res). A follow-up greenhouse trial by the same group notes that with the predator alone, pest numbers could still exceed tolerable levels; adding the psyllid parasitoid Tamarixia triozae gave better, more cost-effective control. No field or garden evidence was found.

Before you order

The native North American whitefly predator for greenhouse tomato, and the US counterpart of the European Macrolophus. It builds slowly, feeds on the plant as well as on prey, and in trials helped but was not enough on its own. How it works, how to tell it has established and the supplier list are on the full Dicyphus hesperus profile.
