Granulovirus (Madex HP) for oriental fruit moth

Betabaculovirus cypomonellae (Cydia pomonella granulovirus) · microbial insecticide
Against oriental fruit moth

Madex HP is labelled for oriental fruit moth on peach, nectarine, apricot, plum and cherry as well as apple, and its homeowner sublabel covers backyard trees. We found no extension trial of the virus against oriental fruit moth in home plantings, so treat the label as the evidence. UC IPM notes that the first two generations mine young shoots, which wilt and die, before later generations move into the fruit.

RateLabel rate — Madex HP ½ tsp per 5 gal of water (Cyd-X does not list oriental fruit moth)
TimingAs the first-generation eggs hatch in late spring or early summer; at least twice per larval generation, and again after 6–8 sunny days

Before you order

An insect virus sprayed on fruit trees while codling moth eggs are hatching. A newly hatched larva that eats it on the way into a fruit dies within 3–7 days. It is specific to codling moth (Madex HP is also labelled for oriental fruit moth), so bees and other beneficial insects are unharmed. How it works, how to tell it has established and the supplier list are on the full Betabaculovirus cypomonellae (Cydia pomonella granulovirus) profile.
