BeneficialLong-tailed mealybug

Mealybug destroyer for long-tailed mealybug

Cryptolaemus montrouzieri · predatory lady beetle
Against long-tailed mealybug

The long-tailed mealybug makes no external egg sac and gives birth to live young. Rincon-Vitova says the beetle is less effective on it for exactly that reason, because the females lay their eggs in the cottony egg masses this species lacks. Expect slower control that depends more on the adults you release than on a new generation of larvae, and plan on repeat releases. Keep it warm and keep ants off the plants.

Rate5 beetles per infested plant, or 2–10 /m² per release
TimingOn an established colony, above 16 °C; expect to repeat releases
TemperatureBest 22–28 °C; slows below 16 °C
