Beauveria bassiana for spotted lanternfly

Beauveria bassiana strain GHA · microbial insecticide (fungus)
Against spotted lanternfly

Documented because it is on the label and people ask, not because it works. Penn State Extension does not currently recommend Beauveria for spotted lanternfly because of inconsistent results. In Penn State's large field trial, published in 2023, none of the Beauveria treatments significantly reduced lanternfly numbers, even after three applications, while a single dinotefuran spray cut them by 72–91%. The spores did not last long on the leaves. Virginia Tech work on spraying egg masses before hatch is promising but not yet advice.

RateLabel rate — ½–2 qt per 100 gal (BotaniGard ES / Mycotrol ES); spotted lanternfly is on the label but not for use in California
TimingResearchers have tested sprays on young nymphs and on overwintering egg masses; neither is a recommendation

Before you order

Spores of an insect-killing fungus, sprayed on to the pest. They stick, germinate and grow through the insect's skin, so coverage is everything. It is slow, working over 7–10 days, and must start while numbers are low. It can also infect some beneficial insects. How it works, how to tell it has established and the supplier list are on the full Beauveria bassiana strain GHA profile.
