Red scale parasite for san jose scale

Aphytis melinus · parasitoid wasp
Against san jose scale

Koppert, Arbico, Nature's Good Guys and Rincon-Vitova's catalogue list San Jose scale as a host, and UC's natural enemies gallery names it among the armoured scales this wasp attacks. On backyard fruit trees, though, the evidence is thinner than in citrus. Washington State records Aphytis among the parasitoids of San Jose scale and says that, although they destroy many scales, they do not give enough control to prevent damage. UC's apple guidelines rely on dormant-season oil sprays. Use releases as a supplement to oil, not a replacement, and control ants.
